Inspired by the late president and general, Dwight D. Eisenhower, the US Mint desired to produce the first US dollar in over 35 years. Marked as more of a commemorative series, the Eisenhower dollars were minted at 3 US Mint branches. In 1976, the US Mint wanted to produce a celebratory bicentennial coin and made two types. The types can be differentiated by the lettering on their reverse. The 1976-S Clad Proof Type 2 Eisenhower Dollar Roll contains a more elegant font, on its reverse, and is composed of the copper-nickel alloy used in many US coins. There are 20 coins, in a roll, and come in flawless proof condition. The Eisenhower dollar series never took off like the US Mint expected. Only circulated on the west coast, Eisenhower dollars are easily accessible in mint condition. The perfect starter collection for any aspiring collector!
