Although its introduction was well-received, the Eisenhower Dollar is still a beloved collection for novice collectors. In fact, the Eisenhower dollar series was only circulated on the west-coast, leaving millions to be well-preserved for future collections. Due to its large mintages, the Eisenhower dollar series is readily available in all dates and mint-marks, and the price is always relatively low. The US Mint experiences a setback in 1965, when the price of silver greatly increased. Instead of using 90% silver to produce their coins, the US Mint was required to use only 40% silver on collectible coins only. The rest of the US currency would be made out of a copper-nickel alloy that wouldn't contain any silver. The 1976-S Silver Proof Eisenhower Dollar Roll is among the special group that contains 40% silver and not the copper-nickel alloy. There are 20 Proof coins to a roll, and are easily susceptible to fingerprints.
