It took a lot of work to continue the production of silver dollars years and years ago. The Morgan silver dollar was the first standard minted, since the production of the previous dollar, the Seated Liberty, ceased. At first, many free lance miners would be paid for their silver by the US mint but there wasn't any regulation on the silver. A few bills and repeals later, the Morgan would be authorized, then unauthorized, then reauthorized to continue to be minted. The US Mint were given many deadlines on how much silver they could mint per year. This is one of the reasons there was not a silver dollar minted from 1904-1921. Morgans not only contain 90% silver but they also carry over one hundred years of silver production history that is worth learning about if you are a collector. Your 1887-O is brilliantly uncirculated and close to a MS63 grade. All coins are packaged in coin flips for shipment.
