George T. Morgan was the person who designed the Morgan silver dollar and depicted Lady Liberty in an unpopular way. Usually, Lady Liberty is depicted as a tall, thin, lady who is wearing a light-weight dress that easily flows around her and her long body is included in the illustration. Morgan went a different route and decided to focus on her beautiful face. Liberty's face is the only part of her present on the obverse of every Morgan silver dollar. Since this design was very different than what was expected, the silver dollar was named after Morgan. Morgan also began the facial portraits on currency, instead of an entire body having to be drawn. Your 1890-S Morgan is BU and and was minted in San Francisco. The famous "S" mint-mark can be found on the reverse side of the coin and is located underneath the eagle's tail feathers.
