Although the 1996 American Silver Eagle BU contains the lowest mintage in the brilliant uncirculated bullion coin series, the 1996 proof has a higher mintage than most of the Proof Silver Eagles. But then again, high mintage for proof silver eagles means something very different when compared to the incredibly high mintages of its brilliant uncirculated counterpart. A whopping 500,000 proof eagles were minted in 1996, yet they are still a highly sought after coin. Besides the competitively low mintages, the proof eagles are also sought after for their beautiful mint packaging and remarkable "mirrored" finish that makes them glisten. Due to their excellent presentation box, collectors and investors have found that the proof silver eagles make perfect gifts when celebrating a special occasion or holiday.
Your 1996 Proof Silver Eagle is guaranteed, by the US Mint, to weigh one troy ounce of .999 silver. Your coin comes encapsulated inside a velvet box then is placed into a cardboard box with the US Mint's insignia on the top. Your coin is stamped with the "P" mintmark to show that the coin was mint in Philadelphia.

-Obverse: Walking Liberty is on the front of the coin with the date of mintage.
-Reverse: The Great Seal of the United States of American is illustrated on the back of the coin. The seal may be recognized from the one dollar bill, United States passports, and military emblems. This seal has been used for over a hundred years and symbolizes so much for the nation. The design is of an eagle, protected by a shield, with the infamous Latin saying, "E pluribus unum," written on a banner across the eagle's wings. The eagle's right talon is holding an olive branch to represent a peaceful nation and the left talon is clenching arrows symbolizing the right to defend the country.
