Proof Silver Eagles
In 1986, the popular and world-renowned Proof Silver Eagle was first minted. This coin not only grabbed the attention of avid coin collectors but it also changed the silver bullion industry. Proof Silver Eagles stand out due to their glossy, mirror-like finish and their appealing presentation box. The Proof Silver Eagles have been minted at the Philadelphia, San Francisco, and West Point Mints, carrying their appropriate mint-marks. In fact, this is one of the only times the Philadelphia Mint places their "P" mint-mark on their coins. All Proof Silver Eagles are encased in a capsule, protected by a velvet presentation box with the Certificate of Authenticity included, and everything is contained in a mint-issued cardboard box.
Design of the Proof Silver Eagle
Lady Liberty graces the obverse of every American Silver Eagle and rightfully so! The elegance she carries along with the strength of a warrior is beautifully depicted on this coin. Originally the design for the Walking Liberty half dollar, the Lady Liberty on the American Silver Eagle dollar has been revived to keep the encouragement of liberty and freedom continued for years to come! The famous phrase, "In God We Trust," the word, "Liberty," and the coin's date of mintage. -Reverse: The reverse displays the national seal, an eagle standing proudly with its wings outstretched. The eagle’s body is covered by a shield and each of its talons are grasping an object. The right talon is clenching an olive branch to represent a peaceful yet powerful nation and the left talon is holding 13 arrows to symbolize the 13 original colonies. The reverse is also stamped with the coin's purity and weight for extra assurance.
