George T. Morgan is the engraver behind the beautiful Lady Liberty design on the 100 old Morgan silver dollars. Morgan started his engraving career in England and made his way into the US Mint in 1876. There, he worked under the Chief engraver, William Barber, being his assistant engraver. In 1917, Barber passed away, making Morgan the Chief engraver of the US Mint. Although he designed many US coins, the Morgan was most important since it was named after him. Your 1880-O Morgan is considered to be brilliant uncirculated and is close to the MS61 grade. The mint mark "O" is underneath the eagle, on the reverse, and it represents the New Orleans branch of the US Mint. Morgans are always 90% silver and weigh 26.73 grams, which is about 5 grams off from being one ounce.
