Your 1978-S Morgan Silver Dollar was minted at the San Francisco sector of the US Mint. Although the mintage of this coin is rather high, many collectors still add it to their needed collection. George T. Morgan was the engraver who designed the Morgan in 1878. Morgan's design consists of a head shot of Lady Liberty, accentuating her side features. The reverse contains a large eagle with spread wings and 7 tail feathers. Your 1878-S Morgan is considered brilliant uncirculated and is close to a MS63 grade. The Morgan was first minted in 1878 but due to government silver reserved depleting, the production of the Morgans ended in 1904. The depletion of the reserves was because of a bill Congress passed that demanded all remaining silver should be melted into silver dollars. Then, in 1918 another bill was passed that authorized the minting and melting of silver dollars. The Morgan was produced for one more year in 1921 then its production ceased for good.
