George T. Morgan started from humble beginnings, born and raised in England, where he learned and mastered all of the ways of an engraver. He moved to the US, where he was hired as the assistant engraver to chief engraver, William Barber, at the US Mint. It was at the US Mint where Morgan would become a part of US currency history. He designed the Morgan silver dollar, that reigned at silver dollar from 1878 to 1904. Morgan worked at the mint for almost 40 years before earning the position of chief engraver when Barber died. Meanwhile, it took the government many bills and repeals to afford to produce tons of silver dollars since the Morgans contain 90% silver. Your 1921-S silver Morgan was minted in San Francisco and is in almost uncirculated condition, with bag marks or surface abrasions to be expected. AU coins also have lost some of their original mint luster.
