  • Description:

1904 was a big year in the US but especially in New York City. With the grand opening of the subway system and the first New Years Eve celebration at Times Square, progress became the theme of the early 1900's. But transportation wasn't the only business making jumps in history. The minting of the Morgan silver dollar gained a lot of political attention at the time. Since silver was being mined and wasn't being taxed, before being sold to the US Mint, there was no inventory check or even an idea of how much silver was coming in. The Bland-Allison Act was passed in order to ensure the proper production of silver dollars. This back and forth game barely ended in 1904, when the Morgan's production stopped. Then, in 1921, the Morgan and Peace dollar were both minted, as a means to an end. Your 1904-O Morgan is in almost uncirculated condition and contains 90% of silver.. Your Morgan carries the official New Orleans "O" mint-mark on the reverse of the coin, underneath the eagle's tail feathers.
