Although coin collectors are entranced by the coins themselves, the coin engravers also carry an interesting history that is worth noting. George T. Morgan, the official designer of the Morgan Silver dollar, started his engraving career in England as an apprentice before making his way into the US Mint in 1876. It was there he worked as assistant engraver under the Chief engraver, William Barber who is famous for the Barber designs. In 1917, Barber passed away, making Morgan the Chief engraver of the US Mint and just in time for the Morgan Silver dollar comeback in 1921.. Although he designed many US coins, the Morgan was most important since it was named after him. Your 1892-O Morgan is considered to be almost uncirculated and carries the mint mark "O" underneath the eagle on the reverse, and it represents the New Orleans branch of the US Mint.
