Sometimes, it's nice to know the history of your favorite coin before investing. It can also be an important tool when deciding if you want to invest or not. But mainly, it's just fun to learn exactly about how a coin was made and by whom. George T. Morgan is the engraver behind the beautiful Lady Liberty design on the 100 old Morgan silver dollars. Morgan started his engraving career in England and made his way into the US Mint in 1876. There, he worked under the Chief engraver, William Barber, being his assistant engraver. In 1917, Barber passed away, making Morgan the Chief engraver of the US Mint. Your 1880-O Morgan is considered to be almost uncirculated. The mint mark "O" is underneath the eagle, on the reverse, and it represents the New Orleans branch of the US Mint. Now that you have learned a little bit about who designed the Morgan, enjoy investing in this collection, and show it off as a conversation starter!
