Named after the famous president and general, Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Eisenhower Dollar follows the intimidating footsteps of a few beloved dollars from the past. In fact, many collectors compare the Morgan silver dollar to the Eisenhower dollar, since the Morgan gained its loyal following decades after it was first minted. Like the Morgan silver dollar, the Eisenhower dollar was minted in bulk, only to sit in banks and reserves, instead of being circulated. Collectors predict that the Eisenhower dollar will gain momentum in years to come, increasing its numismatic value among collectors. The 1978 Eisenhower Dollar Roll contains 20 coins in perfect brilliant uncirculated condition, marking the last year the Philadelphia Mint would produce the Eisenhower dollar. Although the Eisenhower dollar didn't gain too much traction, it has become a history maker in itself. It was the last dollar to be minted for circulation and the first to contain a portrait of a past president.
