Lady Liberty in a frosted matte finish, amidst a sea of a glossy proof background, is what separates the Proof coins from the BU. The design, on the silver eagle, is usually connected to the Walking liberty half-dollar that was in circulation from 1916-1947. This iconic image's credit goes to Adolph A. Weinman, an American sculptor born in Germany. Weinman's other works are still scattered throughout the US since they represent tons of US history. Another familiar design of his is the Mercury dime, which is mainly traded nowadays for its silver content.
