The Walking Liberty design originated in 1916, being the obverse design of the US half dollar from 1916-1947. Adolph A. Weinman is the American/German sculptor who is responsible for the iconic figure. Weinman's artwork is scattered throughout the US since it has such an important role in US history. Another familiar design of Weinman's is the Mercury dime, which was in circulation from 1916-1945 and is now sought after for its silver content. The US Mint resurrected the much beloved Walking Liberty design, in 1986, by placing it on the obverse of every silver eagle coin. The Proof Silver Eagle is no different except it brandishes a flawless proof finish.

-Obverse: On the obverse, Lady Liberty is displayed in all of her glory; loosely dressed in a lightweight toga that gently moves with the wind. The lady has a tall and slender figure that is draped by a large American flag. Both of the lady's arms are occupied; one holding a bundle of branches and the other is extended as if reaching out in invitation. The rising sun encroaches behind her as it offers the hope of a new day. The words, "Liberty," and "In God We Trust," are both stamped on the obverse, along with the coin's date of mintage.
-Reverse: The reverse shows the US Coat of Arms with 13 stars above it to represent the original 13 colonies. The reverse also bears the coin's weight and purity to prove its validity.
