The Kookaburra bird is native to Australia and is known for its cackling call, which resembles human laughter. Kookaburras are also viewed as "spirit birds" and a sudden sighting of one could be a sign of opportunity. It is encouraged, if you see a kookaburra, to pay close attention to opportunities around you and not to be timid. The Kookaburra species are also carnivorous creatures, preying on small, rodents, reptiles, and insects. These birds teach us to not always trust the beautiful exterior but to care more for what is on the inside. This magnificent bird was chosen to be featured on every silver bullion coin for the kookaburra series.
The intent is to change the design every year, giving investors and collectors something to look forward to with the newer releases. The Perth Mint also plays with the finish that is supposed to be brilliant uncirculated but resembles a flawless proof coin. The Perth Mint was clever in keeping the mintage of the kookaburra coins to a minimum. Due to a mintage of only 300,000 coins, the 1992 Silver Kookaburra is a highly sought after coin.
