The kookaburra bird is native to Australia and contains 4 different breeds within the species. This bird is known to contain a beautiful compilation of colors within its feathers and by some of the colors, its gender can be determined. The call of the kookaburra can be frightening to those that aren't from Australia since it sounds like human laughter. Depending on the breed, the call will sound like different laughs such as a cackling laugh, a low/slow laugh, or a giddy laugh. Kookaburras are also carnivores wherein they prey on small rodents, baby birds, reptiles, and insects. There has even been accounts of kookaburras taking meat straight off of a barbecue. This incredibly interesting bird has earned itself a spot on the reverse of the Silver Kookaburra series with different designs of the kookaburra.
The dimension of design, on the 1991 kookaburra coin, makes for an incredible presentation. The harmonious use of a matte finish and a proof-like finish gives a great sense of dimension. This outstanding silver coin collection is a fantastic series to add to your own collection!
