Collectors enjoy the ease of the Sacagawea collection, since most minted are reserved for collecting purposes only. The Sacagawea Dollar series is also perfect for novice collectors or kids who are interested in starting their collection! With a more controlled mintage than previous US dollars, the Sacagawea series is primarily produced for collectibility purposes. Being the first dollar to contain a golden sheen, the Sacagawea Dollar contains solid copper in its core. Sacagawea was a Shoshone Indian, who led Lewis and Clark on their famous expedition. Since the famous duo was venturing on unchartered territory, the natives wouldn't take kindly to the adventurous crew. Sacagawea was able to save their lives by making cultural connections from North Dakota, all the way to the Pacific Coast. The 2008-S Sacagawea Dollar is in proof condition and was minted at the San Francisco Mint. This would also be the last year the US Mint would use the same reverse design on every Sacagawea coin.
