The Denver Mint was new when it first participated in the minting of the Peace silver dollar. It was first established in 1908 and mainly minted speciality coins, such as commemoratives but would be called upon if the other mint branches needed production help. The Denver Mint did not produce a Peace dollar every year but only minted the dollar 5 times in its 7 years of production. Since Peace dollars carrying the "D" mint-mark are scarcer, it is harder to find them in higher conditions. Your 1923-D Peace silver dollar contains 90% silver and is in very fine condition. Collectors specify very fine condition as a general worn surface, especially around the image details, such as Liberty and the eagle. The motto on the reverse also contains intense wear over the years. Dollars in very fine condition are viewed on the higher end of the circulated grading spectrum.
