The San Francisco Mint has been one of the most successful US mints since the 1800's, producing $4 million dollars of gold into coins in just its first year of production! It is known to any Morgan collector that the San Francisco Mint has a reputation of making excellent quality Morgans, even if they are circulated, adding to the value of the dollar. Just 1.2 million 1903-S Morgans were minted, making it difficult to find one that is in a condition that is better than circulated. Many 1903-S Morgans were put into circulation and very few Mint State Morgans were saved in the Treasury or by collectors. After that first lucrative year, the San Fran Mint moved to another building to expand their operations. This second building was deemed the nickname, Granite Lady, since it withstood the tragic earthquake of 1906. Your 1903-S Morgan is in good-very good condition, with a worn and smooth surface.
