In 1898, Annie Oakley fought for female military power, in case the US declared war with Spain. The Hawaiian Islands were annexed by the US and the USS Maine was attacked and sunk by a mine, thus starting a war. Morgan collectors enjoy the beauty of the coin, but they also enjoy having historical events to connect to these very old coins. Your 1898 Morgan silver dollar was minted at the Philadelphia mint and thus, does not carry a mint mark. The Philadelphia Mint was the first mint to be established in the US and is still in production today, although the original building as been long gone. Your coin is considered to be in fine condition, with large amounts of wear present, especially around Lady Liberty and the eagle on the reverse. The heavy amount of wear also creates a smooth surface on the coin.
