Cocoa-Cola was invented by a pharmacist and the Statue of Liberty was dedicated by president Grover Cleveland. Using the transcontinental railroad, the first batch of oranges left California to be distributed throughout the country. All of these historical events happened in 1886, along with the minting of the Morgan. Your 1886 Morgan silver dollar was minted in Philadelphia but does not carry a mint mark. The Philadelphia Mint was the first official mint facility in the US, established in the nation's capital at the time. The Founding Fathers desperately needed the US to establish an identity and a means of international commerce and a mint would be the ticket. This Morgan is considered to be in fine condition, exhibiting heavy wear around Lady Liberty and the eagle on the reverse.
