Since the historical gold rushes, such as the Klondike Gold Rush that called thousands of miners North West, the government has struggled with a proper method of regulating the precious metals being mined and the silver dollars being produced. Because of this challenge, the silver dollar had quite a short life before a new dollar would take its place. This tension caused many bills to authorize the production of the Morgan, just to have it cancelled a few days later. A couple more acts were passed then repealed after the Bland-Allison act so the Morgan dollar ended its reign in 1904. Your 1898-O Morgan is in almost uncirculated condition, desperately holding onto remnants of its original luster. Your Morgan carries the official New Orleans "O" mint-mark on the reverse of the coin to signify which sector of the US Mint the coin was minted at.
