Not every Morgan Silver dollar was created equal so looking for a rare Morgan is harder than one might think. Over one million Morgans were produced every year so narrowing down the "more valuable" coins can be a challenge. Since Morgan silver dollars were minted at several different mints across the country, each mint claimed the coins they produced by placing a mint-mark on the back of the Morgan, underneath the tail feathers. The "O" mint-mark represents the New Orleans sector of the mint, "CC" stands for the Carson City, Philadelphia doesn't have a mint-mark, and San Francisco uses a "S." Only a certain amount of Morgans were minted at every mint, so some mint-marks might be more rare than others. For example, only 700,000 San Francisco Morgans were minted in 1889, making this coin a rare one. Your 1889-S Morgan is in almost uncirculated condition, containing small amount of wear around the coin's design.
