The Isle of Man Gold Cat 1991 features the Norwegian Forest cat. Every year, the Pobjoy Mint, which is located in Surrey, England, produces a coin to continue their Isle of Man Gold Cat series. The Pobjoy Mint is known for producing non-circulating commemoratives, medallions, and tokens for other countries. Each coin displays a different cat breed every year. These gold coins are 24 karat gold, come in brilliant uncirculated condition, and are packaged in plastic coin flips for their own protection. If you are looking to start a unique gold coin collection then the Isle of Man Gold Cat series is for you!
The Norwegian Forest Cat is a domestic breed that is comfortable in extreme cold climates. This cat has 2 layers of fur to keep it warm: outside glossy coat, water- shedding coat, and then a woolly undercoat for proper insulation and warmth. The Norwegian Forest Cats' size is much larger than the average cat, containing a long, sturdy body. Their heads are long and in the form of a triangle. Their eyes are large and oval shaped. They are especially known for their long, thick, bushy tails. Their noses protrude to a prominent length. These cats are pretty with a dire need to be outside, especially if it's cold!
The obverse of this coin displays Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at a side angle. Written around her are the words, "Isle of Man", and the coin's year of mintage, "1991". The reverse pictures a large Norwegian Forest cat standing on all fours. Its prominent bushy tail is in the air as if the cat is shyly walking. The cat is accompanied by another cat and a couple of seagulls in the distance. The coin's weight of 1 oz is also displayed underneath the cat's dainty feet.
