Eisenhower Dollar 1974-S Clad Proof

Considered to be one of the easiest collections to obtain, the Eisenhower Dollar series is usually on every novice collector's list. In 1965, the US Mint was required to cut back the amount of silver it was using in the currency. Instead of 90% silver, a nickel-copper alloy replaced the metal composition of all coins, except the collectible coins such as proof or part of a special series. This meant that in 1969, when the Eisenhower dollar was conceived, only a certain number of the coins could contain 40% silver. Unless noted, all of the Eisenhower dollars with the "S" mint-mark, contain silver. The 1974-S Clad Proof does not contain silver but is made from the alloy combo, hence the term "clad." The Eisenhower series has no real numismatic value but is believed the become as popular as the Morgan silver dollar. Only time will tell!
