The Old Mint, also known as the New Orleans Mint, is one of the oldest standing landmarks in the US. This South-based mint served as a branch of the US Mint from 1838-1861, then again from 1879-1909. Unfortunately, the bulk of the New Orleans Mint's production was the Morgan silver dollar, and when the Morgan's production ceased, it took the Old Mint down with it shortly after. After being shut down, the New Orleans Mint was used for other things like an assay office, the US Coast guard office, and even a fallout shelter. Your 1884-O Morgan is considered to be in brilliant uncirculated condition and has earned the grade of MS63. The majority of the Morgans minted were either placed into circulation or stored away in bank bags. This makes it difficult when determining the condition of a Morgan.
