The Australian Koala Bear has been a very sought after animal in Australia for an extremely long time. There are accounts of koala drawings in caves to date them far back. Until recently, they have been hunted for their soft and pliable fur. Thanks to local conservationists, the koala bear is protected by law and is thriving once again. This bear is known for its ability to climb tall trees for food by using its large, claw-like hands to maintain a sturdy grip.

The Perth Mint decided to honor these nationally loved animals by creating a silver bullion coin series. This series produces coins every year since 2007 and offers a different design yearly as well. The silver Koala series is a perfect gift for the animal lover or world traveler in your family!

-Obverse: The obverse design of this coin reveals an exquisite side portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This style of portrait of the Queen makes her come to life and have realistic features, such as slight lines and wrinkles around her face. Her intricate curls are adorned with a stunning crown and her lips are perfectly parted to insinuate a slight smile. The coin's place of origin, "Australia," is written on the obverse, along with the coin's date of mintage, "2010," and the coin's legal tender value of "one dollar."
-Reverse: Sporting a solo koala on the reverse, the 2010 silver Koala coin displays a simple yet powerful design. The koala's detailing isn't overdone yet it contains just enough detail to bring the bear to life. This koala is balancing on a very thin branch of an unstable gum tree, desperately trying to obtain the last leaf for dinner. The coin's purity of "1 oz .999 silver" is written in small font underneath the koala. The Perth Mint's mark, "P," is also lightly scripted to the left hand side of the solitary koala.
