The design featured on the 2003 silver frosted uncirculated Kangaroo was inspired by a drawing from an Aboriginal artist, Ray Thomas. Ray is apart of the Gunnai people from the state of Victoria. He dedicated many years to exploring the mythology, history, and body marks of his people to coordinate into his art. Ray desires to harmoniously combine modern art with the traditional designs and motifs of the Gunnai people. His design on the 2003 Kangaroo looks like a cave drawing with its primal lines and markings. The detail on this kangaroo is phenomenal and definitely honors the history of his people. Among the kangaroo and the random markings around it, "one dollar" and "1 ounce of fine silver" are also inscribed on the reverse. The design featured on the obverse of the coin is of a famous side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, regally poised and gracefully balancing a crown on her tight curls. The coin's place of mintage, "Australia," and the coin's mintage year, "2003," accompany the Queen on the obverse.
