  • Description:

There was once a princess and a warrior who fell in love. When the warrior went to war, the princess fell ill and died. When the warrior returned to his love had died, he carried her to the mountains where the gods resided. He begged for them to restore her so he could forever be next to her side. Instead, the gods made the two lovers into volcanoes so they can always be side-by-side. These volcanoes, Popocatépetl and Izztaccihuatl, are featured on the obverse of the Mexican Libertads. Also displayed is Victoria, a beautiful goddess who represents victory and independence for the Mexican people.

The Mexican Silver Libertad series began in 1982 by the Mexican Mint. Also known as one of the oldest mints established, the Mexican Mint began its journey as a coin and currency producer back in 1535. The ruler of Mexico at the time, Antonio de Mendoza, issued a decree to create the first mint in the Americas. Aside from being .999 pure silver, in brilliant uncirculated condition, and packaged in individual coin flips, these silver bullion coins come loaded with tons of ancient Mexican history and mythology that make great conversation starters. The Libertads' reputation of being elegantly crafted out of the finest quality of silver has gotten major acclaim nationally. The Mexican Silver Libertads are becoming a part of many coin collectors' compilation.
