Starting in 1982, the Mexican Silver Libertad series comes from one of the oldest mints in the Americas: the Mexican Mint. Many nations used her image as a symbol to represent their success and independence. Mexico chose Victoria to grace the obverse side of the silver coin as a statement of how far they have come has a country and a nation. Only half of her body is covered by a streaming drape that is lightly touched by the wind. In the far distance are the famous volcanoes, Popocatépetl and Izztaccihuatl. In Mexican mythology, these volcanoes are said to be once star-crossed lovers who desired to spend eternity side-by-side.
