  • Description:

Of course, collecting old coin series can deem a highly profitable investment but part of the fun is also learning about the history associated with the coins you are collecting. Along with the coins, the US Mint also contains an interesting glimpse into the nation's history. The infamous San Francisco Mint, which is dated all the way back to the California gold rushes, is one of those mints. This west coast-based mint was established to help prospectors turn their mined treasure into currency. In just its first year in production, the San Francisco Mint turned $4 million worth of gold into coins! Of course, it was also a part of popular silver coin series, such as the Morgan or the Barber series. Due to the inconsistent mintages, the Barber series has become extremely popular among collectors.

The 1906-S Barber Dime is in very good condition, which entails large abrasions on both sides of the coin, with details lacking, such as Liberty's headpiece or the eagle's feathers. All individual coins are packaged in coin sleeves to ensure protection while in transit. Barber used the Head of Liberty to grace the obverse of the Barber coin series. Liberty's look is inspired by a Grecian Goddess and she wears an Acanthus leaf cap as a crown. "United States of America," and the coin's mint date are also simply stamped on the obverse of the Barber Dime. The reverse, on the quarter and half dollar, contains the nation's official seal, which is of a heraldic eagle holding a shield. Each of the eagle's talons are grasping a symbolic gesture: olive branches and arrows. The Barber Dime's reverse solely contains its monetary denomination.
