The Morgan silver dollar is the most famous and most collected silver dollar, in the US. But as many enjoy this highly collectible gem, many don't know about its creator, George T. Morgan. Morgan began his career early in England, before taking the giant leap across the pond to the US. He was hired as the assistant engraver to the chief engraver, William Barber, at the US Mint. Morgan worked at the mint for almost 40 years before earning the position of chief engraver when Barber died. Since the Morgan contains 90% silver, the government had to reach into their silver reserves and reauthorize the minting of the Morgans for completion. Because of the lack of silver, the Morgan's production had to stop in 1904. Your 1887 roll of Morgan silver dollars was minted in Philadelphia and is in brilliant uncirculated condition. Exhibiting their original mint luster, your Morgans are preserved best by being stored in airtight containers.
