  • Description:

The Philadelphia Mint has carried innumerable amounts of history, ever since it started producing coins in 1792. Still active today, the Philadelphia Mint has had its hand in countless famous coin collections. Being the oldest mint in US history, the Philadelphia Mint also stands as the first ever mint in the US. Much gratitude to our Founding Fathers, who greatly desired to partake in international commerce and thus, needed a currency for the new nation. Since then, the Philadelphia Mint has seen its fair share of historical wars, turnovers in presidency, and has even been in the center of important protests. The 1919 Standing Liberty Quarter is in extra fine condition and has a mintage on the higher side, of over 11.3 million. Since the 1919 Standing Liberty was minted right before 1925, its date is going to be more worn than the rest of the coin. Collectors expect coins in extra fine condition to carry some wear, but not compromising the coin's main image details. Through it all, the Philadelphia Mint has been able to stay true to the Founding Fathers' original vision and has produced some of the most valuable coin collections in history and in the world.

The Standing Liberty was President Theodore Roosevelt's attempt to making US coinage a work of art again. Although there were some low mintage years, the Standing Liberty Quarter's average mintage is quite high. Minted from 1916 until 1930, the Standing Liberty Quarter replaced the Barber Quarter. Until 1925, the Standing Liberty was weakly struck, causing the coin's date to wear off without difficulty. The issue was finally fixed in 1925, but many circulated quarters still have weak dates, even if they have a higher grade.
