Description:
Silver didrachm from Selinus, Sicily. Founded by Greeks in the 7th century B.C., Selinus was a large and successful metropolis, but was overrun in 409 B.C. by Hannibal's Carthaginian army. The obverse of this coin has a selinon (wild celery) leaf, and the reverse has an incuse square divided into 12 sections. 8.23 g., VF condition.
