  • Description:

Although the Seated Liberty series is comprised of 90% silver coins, this series is not for the faint of heart. Only ambitious collectors take on the challenge of collecting this low mintage, high premium series. The San Francisco Mint only produced over 3.1 million dimes in 1891 and is in fine condition. Exhibiting heavy wear on both sides of the coin, the 1891-S Seated Liberty Dime will also be lacking in important detailing. The Seated Liberty series completed in 1891, making the 1891-S Seated Liberty Dime the last of its series. The San Francisco Mint is one of the oldest mints in the US and is precisely known for its strong strikes and lower mintages. The West-Coast based mint was established for the convenience of prospectors during the gold rush. In just its first year of production, the San Francisco Mint had to move to another location for its expanding business. Nowadays, it's mainly responsible for production of the proof sets that are released yearly.

For the US, the most prominent depiction of Liberty stands in New York's harbor. Lady Liberty hasn't always been just an US icon. Dating back to the Roman Empire and perhaps, before, the Goddess of Liberty has been used in many cultures to celebrate the concept of liberty and freedom from oppressors. The goddess has been used on currency worldwide, especially in the US, and still is a nationwide icon. Normally, the goddess is depicted wearing a draped robe that loosely fits and her hands are usually occupied holding other significant symbols, such as olive branches, arrows, or a torch.
