Description:
The Sasanian Empire was the final Persian kingdom prior to the introduction of Islam, succeeding the Parthian Empire in the early 3rd Century. This coin depicts Shapur II, who was crowned in utero and reigned for 70 years. He was an effective ruler, establishing the kingdom as a major power and seat of culture, art and trade, rivaling the Roman-Byzantine adversaries to the west.
This coin depicts his crowned bust on the obverse and Fire Altar with attendants on the reverse. Exceptional quality for this type at a reasonable price.
