The San Francisco Mint has had its hand in the minting of almost all US dollars. Ever since it was first established, in 1852, the San Francisco Mint has been dazzling collectors with its high quality control and strongly struck coins. Over the last 50 years, the San Francisco Mint has mainly focused on proof coins, perfecting the pristine mirrored finish. The Sacagawea Dollar is just one of the San Francisco Mint's masterpieces, being the first dollar to display a golden tinted surface. Sacagawea was the brave female Shoshone, who led the Lewis and Clark Expedition, through some of the most dangerous parts of the midwest. She has since been used as a symbol in women's rights movements, honoring her independence. The 2002-S Sacagawea Dollar Roll contains 20 coins, each in beautiful proof condition, preserved since few Sacagawea Dollars have been used in circulation. With a simple eagle design on the reverse and a prominent portrait of Sacagawea on the obverse, this coin screams patriotism.
