Description:
The female gender of the African Lion (Panthera Leo) is distinctive in that she lacks the long-haired mane found on the male gender of the species. She is also about half the weight of the male, at approximately 126 kg (275 lbs) full-grown.
A pride of lions often includes a small number of male adults, up to twenty blood related females, and their offspring. This means that all the females in a pride are sisters, nieces, aunts, daughters, etc.
Female lions are chiefly the hunters of the species, hunting in groups of up to half a dozen at a time. Males generally do not join in hunting unless the kill is an especially large one.
