George Washington was the nation's first president and it is no surprise the US Mint chose him to kick off the Presidential Dollar line. Minted at the Denver Mint in 2007, the George Washington Presidential Dollar comes packaged in a coin flip for protection. The obverse displays an up close look at the very first president; a marvelous design by engraver, Don Everhart. "George Washington" is rightfully written above the president's portrait, with his term in term office noted at the bottom. The Statue of Liberty graces the reverse design, as well as the coin's legal tender value of $1. The Presidential Dollars are made from manganese and a copper core, resulting in the shocking golden hue of the coin. The Presidential Dollars minted at the Denver Mint are marked with a small "D" on the rim of each coin.
George Washington served from 1789-1797 and wasn't just the United States' first president. Washington also became the first Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War. He was also one of the prized Founding Fathers, who played a key role in the nation's rebirth. George Washington was born in the state of Virginia to generations of successful Tobacco farmers. When Washington's father died, he wasn't able to attend the prestigious school his brothers were able to. Instead, he joined the military and quickly moved to the top.
