Unlike the other proceeding presidents, Andrew Jackson was not raised in a wealthy household with a great education at his fingertips. Jackson was actually born to poor Scottish immigrants on the line between North and South Carolina. At the young age of 13, Jackson was a courier in the Revolutionary War and was captured by Britain. After being treated badly by his captors, Jackson would put himself through school in order to become a lawyer. After earning his degree in law, Jackson was elected into both the House of Representatives and the Senate. He even ran against John Quincy Adams for presidency but lost to the Found Fathers kin. Jackson would become known for his strong aversion toward non-white people and for his extremely large slave-run plantation. Although Jackson was the first militia president since Washington and he had some very innovative ideas for democracy, Jackson's legacy would be tarnished, due to his close-mindedness.
Andrew Jackson was the 7th president of the US, and is known for his establishment of the Democratic party. Don Everhart, a mint-engraver, designed Jackson's portrait on the obverse of the 2008-S dollar. The Presidential Dollars Andrew Jackson 2008-S Proof will be packaged in a coin flip and was minted by the San Francisco Mint The Presidential Dollar series began in 2007 and features four presidents every year.
