  • Description:

For years, the US didn't think it would achieve peace, since the last four presidents didn't know how to handle the North and South divide. Then, Abraham Lincoln was elected into office as the 16th president of the United States. Born and raised in Kentucky, Lincoln became a lawyer, which ended him a seat in the House of Representatives. Since Lincoln greatly opposed slavery, he was losing followers in the South. Lincoln decided to take a break from politics and follow his career as a lawyer, until he ran for president. Abraham Lincoln was able to accomplish what the American people had been waiting for in a president. Lincoln led the United States through its bloodiest war and its most moral constitutional crisis, abolished slavery, preserved the Union, modernized the economy, and strengthened the federal government. Lincoln was almost able to finish a full term as president, before he was assassinated at Ford's Theatre.

Honoring president Abraham Lincoln, the Presidential Dollar series features the well-known man on the obverse of the 2010-P dollars. The reverse features the Statue of Liberty, along with the coin's monetary denomination of $1. The popular golden hue comes from the metallic alloy combination of copper and manganese brass. Lincoln shares the date with three other presidents, Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, and James Buchanan; all of which failed to give the US the leadership that Lincoln so easily provided. The Presidential Dollar series is ideal for so many occasions, whether you or someone you know enjoys history, especially when it appeals to our past presidents.
