Being the first year of mintage, for the Peace silver dollar, 1921 was shared with the Morgan as well. Congress passed the Pittman Act, in 1918, that required the production of millions of silver dollars until the year of 1928. Since the Morgan was the most recent design used, the US Mint opted to continue the Morgan in 1921. But numismatists fought hard to have the design changed, in honor of the peace obtained from World War I, and a new design was made in late 1921. The Peace dollar encapsulated the American ideal of freedom and liberty earned at a price, and was immediately placed into circulation. Your 1921 Peace silver dollar was a circulated coin, in the Peace dollar's first year of mintage. At some point, this coin was salvaged, causing it to be in very fine condition. Very fine condition consists of worn images but details around the rim are lightly worn.
