The Denver Mint was new when it first participated in the minting of the Peace silver dollar. It was first established in 1908 and mainly minted speciality coins, such as commemoratives but would be called upon if the other mint branches needed production help. The Denver Mint did not produce a Peace dollar every year but only minted the dollar 5 times in its 7 years of production. Since Peace dollars carrying the "D" mint-mark are scarcer, it is harder to find them in higher conditions. Your 1926-D Peace silver dollar is considered to be in almost uncirculated condition. With very slight wear but still exhibiting its original mint luster, collectors have a hard time drawing the line between AU dollars and BU dollars, due to their similarities. Since your Peace dollar contains 90% silver, it can tarnish over time when not stored in an airtight container.
