The New Orleans Mint is oftentimes called the Old Mint because it is one of the oldest structures in the US. The Old Mint, served as a branch of the US Mint from 1838-1861, then again from 1879-1909. Unfortunately, the bulk of the New Orleans Mint's production was the Morgan silver dollar, and when the Morgan's production ceased, it took the Old Mint down with it shortly after. After being shut down, the New Orleans Mint was used for other things like an assay office, the US Coast guard office, and even a fallout shelter. The Old Mint is now considered an official historical landmark. Your 1884-O Morgan is considered to be in very fine condition, with wear present on Lady Liberty, the cotton leaves, and the eagle on the reverse. The original mint luster is also gone on very fine coins, since they have been circulated. The mint mark "O" is underneath the eagle, on the reverse, to represent the Old Mint.
