  • Description:

Being the smallest of the US Mints to produce Morgans, Carson City was only in business for a short 19 years. The building itself was small, causing the amount of Morgans minted there to have lower mintages. The Carson City Mint was established to help mint coins from all the silver mining in California. This mint was closed in 1893, just eleven years short of the Morgan silver dollar's production ending. Since every Morgan that was minted in Carson City has a lower mintage, collectors avidly chase after any Morgan carrying that "CC" mint-mark. Your 1878-CC Morgan is in very fine condition with guaranteed wear, especially around Lady Liberty's cheeks, the cotton leaves, and the eagle's feathers. Only 2.2 million of these gems were minted in the inaugural year, making them a key coin for any collector's collection.
