With every century, there are pioneers that have set out, changing things as we know it, and setting a new standard of progress. In 1887, Pearl Harbor became an official Navy base in Hawaii, a snowstorm in Montana contained the largest snowflakes that are on record and the first Groundhog's Day was observed. Also, the railroad industry also passed a bill to be regulated, Helen Keller began her tutoring with Anne Sullivan, and the first female mayor was elected in Kansas. While all of these leaps in progress were made, the Morgan was fighting to stay in production. Due to the complexity of the silver and coin production, the Morgan only had another 17 years left until it's production ceased. Your 1887-O Morgan carries the "O" mint-mark, since it was minted at the New Orleans Mint and is considered to be in good-very good condition. Heavy amount of wear and a smooth surface should be expected with Morgans in good-very good condition. Luckily, the date is still readable on the obverse even though the image details are no longer sharp.
