The Morgan silver dollar is reminder of how far we have come in terms of progress. While the Morgan was being minted in 1896, the first female college basketball game was played, the first X-ray photograph was taken, and Utah officially became the 45th state in the United States of America. Also, William McKinley was elected president in 1896. This was the first official year, after the silver shortage, to start minting Morgans with higher mintages. From 1893-1895, a clause was repealed, causing the US Mint to only use whatever silver was in the reserves since they couldn't purchase new silver. This clause caused the Morgans to be minted at lower rates and stopping the production early each year. Your 1896-O Morgan is in fine condition and carries the "O" mint-mark. Morgans that are in fine condition generally have a heavy amount of wear and a smooth surface on the actual coin.
