The New Orleans Mint served as a branch of the US Mint from 1838-1861, then again from 1879-1909. While the Morgan silver dollar was in production, the New Orleans Mint was able to stay in business since it relied on the Morgan silver dollar production. Unfortunately, the Morgan's production ceased in 1904 and the New Orleans Mint was decommissioned shortly after. The New Orleans Mint is also known as the Old Mint and has served as an assay office, a coast guard storage facility, and a fallout shelter. It has been deemed one of the oldest structures still standing in the US, and is officially a US landmark. Your 1892-O Morgan is considered to be in extra fine condition, with wear present around Lady Liberty's cheeks and hairline. The mint mark "O" is underneath the eagle, on the reverse, to represent the Old Mint.
