The life of a coin engraver can seem both exciting and anti-climatic. You're given the privilege to design coins that will forever be a part of history but you will get lost from the history. Even though most coins are named after their engraver, collectors and investors don't always give a lot of thought to the name. George T. Morgan began as an apprentice in England, before moving to the US to further his career as an engraver. Morgan became an assistant engraver for 30 years before he was announced the Chief Engraver for the United States Mint. Your 1889 Morgan was minted in Philadelphia, one of two mints left that originally minted the Morgans, and is considered to be in extra fine condition. Extra fine condition is the preferred condition of beginner collectors, since it's still a beautiful coin with a lower premium.
